Iowa ATV Safety Training
In Iowa, all riders ages 11 through 17 need the Iowa ATV Safety Certificate to ride an ATV on designated public lands, designated riding areas, and public ice. You can get certified today by completing the Online ATV Safety Course.
The ATV Safety Course Study Guide offers a high level of safety training with interactive exercises scattered throughout the course that are designed to test your knowledge before you take the final exam. These interactive exercises are made to prepare you to obtain your certificate, and are ideal for the "hands-on" learner.
Take the ATV Safety Course now and check out the interactive exercises in every chapter!
In order to obtain your Iowa ATV Safety Certificate, you must successfully pass the ATV Certification Exam Online. A hands-on, rider-based course is not required in addition to successfully passing the online course and exam.
However, Fresh Air Educators and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources strongly recommend that all ATV riders (especially new or young riders) take a hands-on ATV safety course where you can practice ATV skills and riding techniques under the supervision of a certified instructor. To find out about hands-on ATV training in your area, please contact the Department of Natural Resources at www.iowadnr.gov or to find a hands-on course go to www.iowadnr.gov/training.
